Let’s Not Forget That Donald Trump Hates the Chinerman, Too

In what seems like part of a deliberate attempt to make me hate them less, Huffington Post is reviving the brilliant Get Your War On series in video format. The most recent one pokes fun at Donald Trump, and it reminded me of what seems like a neglected aspect of the Donald’s jackassery.

We all know that, despite claims to the contrary, Trump does not have a “great relationship with the blacks.” His demagoguery and lying on the birther issue demonstrates that pretty clearly. But for some reason we all seem to give him a pass when he attacks the Chinese. These tweets Trump posted are from just the past month or so:

• China’s media is attacking @MittRomney while endorsing @BarackObama http://bit.ly/Rk7t59 Of course. Mitt knows it’s Time To Get Tough. [Source]
• China must be worried that @MittRomney will win this November. They have never had such a pushover like @BarackObama. [Source]
• We have to get tough with China before they destroy us. [Source]
• No surprise that China was caught cheating in the Olympics. That’s the Chinese M.O. – Lie, Cheat & Steal in all international dealings. [Source]

It’s enough to make you wonder if Trump orders his limo drivers to take the long way from one side of New York City to the other in order to avoid Chinatown. He’s probably one of those guys that looks at everyone from eastern Asia with painfully obvious suspicion. He’ll probably rant to his staff about how the average Chinese-American he passes on the sidewalk is plotting to take over America in a loud, clear voice on the assumption that they don’t speak English and can’t understand him.

Besides his tweets, Trump hilariously tried to shift the focus of an interview from his birtherism to his take on China.

TRUMP: Obama does not like the issue of where he was born. His own publisher, as you know, using his words, said he was born in Kenya and he lived in Indonesia. Of course, now he’s denying that, amazingly.
So — but I’m not here to talk about that. I’m here to talk, as you said you would, jobs, China, what’s going on with respect to China and how they’re ripping this country, what’s going on with respect to OPEC and how the nations of OPEC are laughing at the stupidity of our country. That’s what I’m here to talk about.

It’s kind of amazing that Trump would retreat from one form of racism to another, probably thinking that it’s safer to go after the Chinese in a pretty openly racist way (not to mention “stupid” America) than it is to go after Obama in a slightly veiled racist way. And he might even be right about that. Even Donald Trump knows that he can’t say things like, “We have to get tough with the African-Americans before they destroy us,” or that they “Lie, Cheat & Steal in all international dealings.” But he can say those things about the Chinese and get only a mild chiding for it.
